Hazmat Training

Did you know that the ONLY exceptions from the hazmat regulations, are in the hazmat regulations. States and local jurisdictions cannot exempt you or your operation from the hazmat regs. With that said, we should always plan to comply with the regulations, and going above and beyond what is required might just look good to a jury, should an incident occur.

49 C.F.R. Part 172, Subpart H, deals with the requirements for hazmat training. All hazmat employees (see 171.8) are required to be trained in General awareness/familiarization, Function-specific, Safety, Security awareness, and In-depth security (if applicable)

This training is required before a new hazmat employee begins a covered function OR within 90 days IF directly supervised by a properly trained hazmat employee. Additionally, hazmat employees must receive recurrent training at least every three years, or sooner if things change in the regulations and/or job function.

Remember, we can always conduct required training more often than, but never less than required.
